What should you wear to the 2026 Presidents Cup? Dress for a long walk on grass, a cool start and a milder afternoon. Comfortable walking shoes, breathable trousers, a simple top and a layer you can remove will serve most spectators better than a full golf outfit. At Medinah, your bag choice matters too: the official fan guide limits opaque bags to 6 by 6 by 6 inches and clear bags to 12 by 6 by 12 inches.

Start with the ground, not the dress code

The Presidents Cup runs from September 24 to 27 at Medinah Country Club near Chicago. A spectator day can involve the course, fan areas and time standing beside a green. Choose shoes you have already worn for several hours. Clean sneakers with secure soles are a sensible default. Avoid new leather shoes, delicate soles and anything that makes a grassy slope feel uncertain.

There is no need to imitate a player. A polo can work, but so can a plain tee with a neat outer layer. The point is to move easily and still feel considered when you stop for food or meet friends.

A practical outfit for the grounds

  • Base: a breathable tee or polo that sits comfortably under a layer.
  • Layer: a quarter zip, light knit or packable jacket that you can carry when it warms up.
  • Bottoms: relaxed trousers or comfortable straight leg jeans with room to walk and sit.
  • Shoes: broken in sneakers with reliable grip.
  • Accessories: a cap and sunglasses if the sun is strong, plus only the small essentials permitted at entry.

A neutral quarter zip is particularly useful because it looks composed without restricting movement. If you already own one, our guide to what to wear under a quarter zip helps you choose the base. TELLS also has an active Signature Quarter Zip Sweatshirt in Gray if you need a layer beyond your current wardrobe. It is an option, not a requirement.

Adjust for the time you plan to arrive

As of September 24, the National Weather Service forecast for the Medinah area showed daytime highs around 19 to 21°C through Sunday, with cooler nights. Forecasts can change, so check the morning update before leaving. If you arrive when gates open, carry the layer. If you come later and the air feels mild, a lighter base may be enough. Our 60 degree weather guide offers more ideas for the cooler part of the day.

If rain enters the forecast, put water resistance and traction ahead of appearance. A light shell is easier to manage than a heavy coat when you are moving between holes. Do not assume you can bring any umbrella or seat without checking the event rules first.

Pack to the event policy

The official Presidents Cup fan guide permits an opaque bag up to 6 by 6 by 6 inches or a clear bag up to 12 by 6 by 12 inches. It also lists exceptions for strollers and diaper bags. Empty reusable cups up to 32 ounces are permitted, and refill stations are available on the course. Check the guide again before you travel because event policies may change.

The fan guide says general parking requires a separate advance pass and a shuttle ride to the entrance. That is another reason to choose shoes for the whole journey rather than only the course.

What if you have hospitality access?

Keep the same walking foundation and refine the finish. A tidy polo or plain tee under a quarter zip, well fitting trousers and clean sneakers can move between the grounds and a hosted space. If your invitation specifies attire, follow that instruction. A jacket that is too formal to carry around the course is rarely the most useful layer.

The short answer

Wear shoes you trust, a base that breathes and one removable layer. Keep the bag within the event limits. Check the local National Weather Service forecast on your day, then make a small adjustment rather than rebuilding the outfit.
